Why Current Prostate Cancer Tests are a Bummer

prostate cancerReducing the risk of prostate cancer is what this year’s charity is all about.   Current tests are not accurate have problems with distinguishing between aggressive and non aggressive forms of the disease.  This means that GPs face an ongoing challenge in deciding whether or not a man should be tested – bummer!

Here are some staggering facts – it could be your father, brother, uncle, husband or friend!

  • 84% of men over the age of 50 are unaware that their risk of prostate cancer is higher than average. This is also true of 90% of black men and 50% of men who have a family history of prostate cancer in a father or brother.
  • In addition, 77% of men over the age of 50 admitted that even if they were aware that they were at a higher than average risk of cancer, but didn’t have any symptoms, they wouldn’t speak to their GP about it. This is also true of 69% of black men and 65% of men who have a family history of prostate cancer in a father or a brother.

As you can see Prostate Cancer is a right pain in the arse to detect which is why Prostate Cancer are seeking to fund research into a prostate cancer risk calculator that could reduce unnecessary biopsies and treatments, and make sure men likely to get aggressive prostate cancer are detected and treated early.

So please support your friends, uncles, dads on raising money to help deal with this terrible disease.

Please give very generously
